KITÁ
Narrated by Martin Sheen
KITÁ is a true story about elite Juilliard students from New York City who cross the world to the Philippine Islands—where their plan to teach dance one summer shatters everything they thought they knew about themselves.
Five dancers arrive with a clear purpose: share what they know, do some good. Trained in discipline and perfection, they carry the rigor of Lincoln Center with them. But the farther they go, the more the rules seem to fall away.
In the mountain rainforests of Luzon, they meet high school students who’ve never encountered contemporary dance. The language barrier is real, yet the chemistry is instant. Movement becomes a powerful bridge.
Then they reach Samar. No stage. No mirrors. Just children dancing for the very first time. And something changes. As the Americans perform for the community and struggle to teach dance, they begin to feel the deeper layers of this remote island—and the weight of a past they didn’t see coming.
An ancient Filipino word meaning the connection between you and I, KITÁ becomes more than a title. It becomes the soul of their journey.
Narration by Martin Sheen—his first return to the Philippines since Apocalypse Now—and a hauntingly beautiful score by Blonde Redhead, this is a must-see.
