A film by William & Gianina
Original Score by Kris Bowers
7 min | Documentary, Experimental, Short
A solo piano performance inside L.A.’s monument of light and space.
Inside the vast, echoing galleries of The Broad Museum in downtown Los Angeles, award-winning composer and pianist Kris Bowers takes a solitary seat at an upright Steinway to perform a live, improvised score. His performance draws from Philip Glass’ original music composed for Shirin Neshat’s films and is inspired by the museum’s landmark exhibition, Shirin Neshat: I Will Greet the Sun Again.
Blending haunting melody with raw emotion, Bowers channels the themes that define Neshat’s work—exile, identity, and resistance—into a transcendent musical experience. As he moves through the museum, the film becomes a quiet conversation between artists.
Directed by William & Gianina and created in collaboration with The Broad and Discover DTLA, Reflections of Shirin Neshat was the first independent film ever granted permission to film inside the museum.
